Description of the higher studies in Design

The designer is the person in charge of configurating our material surroundings. To the necessities and problems that arise in these, the designer gives creative solutions; the designer integrates the formal, functional and communicative elements of the product to be designed, echoing the technological and industrial process.

The higher studies in design orientate his training towards the aesthetics, artistic, technological-scientific and humanistic fields, inherent to the job. The feature of the designer is taken into account as a generalist professional, with a panoramic view about the available resources to solve a problem, and able to coordinate to the specialist of the different disciplines which are implied in the process of designing.

PRODUCT DESIGN

Characteristics of the speciality

The product designer is in charge of projecting the shape and disposition of the elements from those parts of an industrial product, which are in direct contact with some of our senses. In other words, coordinates and articulates all the factors, which participates in the consecutive process of the shape from the functional, aesthetics, symbolic or cultural factors to those that are related to its production, taking into account the demands of the use of these, its handling capacity and understanding. The designer must be aware of the collective welfare in our industrial society.

The fields of work of the product designer are.

  • The objects of use and chattels (tools, utensils, furniture)
  • Consumer products (generic packaging, office computerization)
  • Corporate products ( the study of signs, displays, corporate stationary, merchandising)
  • Leisure products (toys, games, equipment for parks, sport equipment)

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Characteristics about the speciality.

In our surroundings, we continually receive stimulation and visual messages which arrive through the traditional means of communication (books, advertising hoardings, correspondence) mass media (press, television internet) or industrial products (packaging, packing). The graphic designer would elaborate these visual messages that would transmit them, and an audience would receive them through a physical base. (The graphic or audiovisual industry)

Due to the multidiscipline of the communicative act, the training of the graphic designer must be based on different subjects, such as the techniques, which are implied in the process of design, and the knowledge of the means of communication and the sociological and cultural features, which underlie the different fields in a community.

The fields of action in graphic design are: the editorial design, the branding design, the publicity design and promotion of products, and the design of systems of graphic information.

In these fields, the graphic designer can work as an artistic director, as a director of projects or as a graphic designer in a company or studio, or as a self-employed person.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Characteristics about the speciality.

The interior design raises the innovate generation of the populated area acquiring the dominion of the projectual process, the information, the conceptual, the development, the representation, the communication and the development of the space.

The operative domain of the conceptual, poetic, formal, technical, computerized, cultural languages... It allows him to create and resolve new spaces, with all its complexities. The professional activities field is extended to the completely populated areas: The houses, the shops, the offices, the corporations, ephemeral architecture, the exhibitions, leisure parks, the artistic facilities,…

The activity of the designer can be developed as a freelance, joined to a design studio or integrated in a company.

TEXTILE ILLUSTRATION

The School of Arts and Higher Design of Alcoi offers the speciality of Textile Illustration

Aware of its industrial enclave and always related to the development of the textile field, it is an answer to the demand of creative people that in competence with the new productive centres, are anticipating with the labour market trends.

Due to the great demand of textiles and illustration studies, as an artistic expression on student’s part, the School offers the new formative option which combines the two motivations and interests by this professional profile.

Placed in to Higher Studies with status degree, we wish to be a reference point for the wide development of the School in these fields. Textile Illustration studies is the new alternative to the demands of personalizing products, such as T-shirts, coverings for walls, rugs and fitted carpets, house linen, clothing, etc…, in other words, from the textile, interior design, fashion, product…., where the signifier is the reason that it is illustrated whether printed or woven in the garment itself or object.

The way of teaching is based on project and active methodology , studying a variety of aesthetics trends, materials and finished products, knowledge of new technologies, answering to the sociologic fields and market, that the current situation requires.
