This week, on 28 October in particular, the Animation International Day was celebrated. On that day but in 1892, the first public screening of the Théâtre Optique was held at the Grevin Museum in Paris.
The Théâtre Optique is an invention of the engineer Emile Reynaud that allowed, through a set of lenses, to project cartoons to a translucent screen.
